New Year Resolution.

It’s that part of the year when we start forgiving ourselves for the mistakes & setbacks that happened to us in the past and think of new beginnings.

We promise ourselves that we will turn into a new self. We draw inspiration from people who were able to successfully implement their New Year Resolutions and chalk down our own resolution and targets for the New Year.

The most common new year resolutions are:

  • Lose Weight and Get Fit
  • Eat Healthier and Diet
  • Spend More Time with Family
  • Learn Something New
  • Get Out of Debt and Save Money
  • Travel to New Places
  • Be Less Stressed
  • Volunteer
  • Drink Less
  • Quit Smoking

More often than none, the New Year Resolutions chosen by us are resolutions which we were not able to attain in the previous year and less often were resolutions which we accomplished but wanted to go to the next level on.

Resolution where we reach the Level 2 are easier to attain as our previous year’s success motivates us to achieve. Other resolutions require a high level of self control, planning and understanding of your own potential. Is setting an unrealistic resolution the reason why we fail?

The Goals we set for ourselves should be S.M.A.R.T. for it to be in contention of achievable tasks. Our S.M.A.R.T. goal/resolution planning starts with :

  • S– Specific. A specific goal helps us in answering the 5 W’s- Why, What, Which, Who, Where
  • M– Measurable. To measure the progress.
  • A– Achievable/Attainable. A goal which we can achieve
  • R– Realistic/Relevant. A goal which relates to us. Eg. A Goal to Quit smoking for a Non-Smoker.
  • T– Time bound– Setting the time frame in which we most likely would like to achieve the Target.

We fail to attain our goals/resolutions when we do not give the Resolution sufficient thought in our mind. A resolution that works for someone else might not work for you. Understanding of our wants and needs is very important to plan.

Happy New Year to you all.

Hope this new year we make a resolution to make strong resolutions.
